Unlike other types of bangs, long curtain bangs are a middle-parted fringe that grazes the cheekbones. They frame the face and give any haircut show-stopping softness. Ariana Grande, Alexa Chung, and Zooey Deschanel prove how chic and trendy this 70s cut is!

A hairstylist from Illinois, Sammi Wuske has a lot of tips to share about this cut. Her number one rule? Start with long hair versus short hair. “That way, the stylist can establish the best length for your face shape. This length can complement and highlight your features,” she explains.

Wuske agrees that the curtain bangs trend pairs well with a long modern shag cut. It gives a rocker vibe, which she thinks is what is becoming more trendy.

According to Wuske, what you’ll love most about these bangs is their non-commitment. She adds that they’re “easy to grow out into a face-frame. If cut long, they’ll transition into a soft face-frame within two months.”

While this fringe is low-maintenance, it does need time styling. “What I suggest is for all your hair in front of the ear, to always be styled away from your face,” says Wuske.

When asked about her favorite product, she suggests Kérastase Laque Couture hairspray. “This offers a medium hold that lasts while maintaining the integrity of the cuticle of your hair. It’s for smooth, frizz-free bangs all day long.”

#1: Bronde Layered Curtain Fringe

Curtain fringe is one of the most versatile styles that exists currently, not only in the sense of color but for cuts as well. A curtain bang is best for ladies trying to soften their rectangular faces because a curtain bang is designed to be longer. It can also work as a great transition from a fringe, into a heavily layered haircut. This cut is so beautifully paired with a bronde color, to create a very fresh, sun-kissed look!

#2: Blended Long Curtain Bangs

Ask for a blended curtain bang on your long hair. It helps to follow your face shape when creating your overall cut and face framing. Aim for areas you want to highlight when creating a curtain bang. For example, your eyes, hugging the cheekbones or hallowing your jaw. You can highlight or shadow areas with how you style your cut as well.

#3: Bright Creamy Blonde Blowout

Try a bright, creamy blonde blowout. If you need a style with a lot of body, ask for a blowout with big shapely curls. This can be achieved with round brushes that are heated up with the blowdryer. Then hit your hair with a cool shot to lock in the style. After each section, the stylist can clip the section in a pinned curl until finished. This way, it has a longer time to set the style. Finish with O&M Queenie Firm Hold Hair Spray for an all-day hold.

#4: Naturally Salt-and-Pepper Medium Haircut

A layered cut with curtain bangs is the perfect look if you’re embracing your natural blend of gray. It will allow you to stay stylish. This cut pairs nicely with all face shapes. It works best for those with thicker hair textures and gives a classic style that will stay updated for a while. To keep your curtain bangs in place, use a strong hold hairspray. Try Oribe Superfine Hairspray, and brush them into place after they are dry.

#5: Classic Long Round Layers

If you’re interested in getting classic long-rounded layers, add curtain bangs. They seamlessly blend with your hair length and texture. A layered look gives the appearance of thicker locks while allowing for flexibility. This is so you can spend less time styling. You need to use a large barrel curling iron or curling flat iron with texturizing products to get this look!

#6: Seamless Layers and Balayage

Long seamless layers and balayage with curtain bangs is the spot on combo this year. One of the easiest ways to style it is with a wand twisting away from your face. Pay attention to the curtain bangs though. If not long enough, your best bet is to use a round brush and a dryer to style.

#7: Dimensional Highlights with Curtain Bangs

If you’re looking for a more feathered bang, it’s helpful to layer your client’s fringe. In addition, the best way to stack and add volume is to texturize their ends with a razor or thinning shears. Both help to remove weight. If your client has thinner hair, pull a thicker section out to get the fuller effect. Be mindful of your client’s weight line in the front and not to cut into it if it’s thin.

#8: Blonde Feathered Long Curtain Fringe

The best way to hide a bigger forehead is to add angled bangs. The short to long shaping allows you to switch up you part while still covering you forehead. To avoid flatness, try round brushing your bangs. Pull your hair away from the scalp.

#12: Long Curled Curtain Fringe

A long curled curtain fringe exudes sophistication. One of the best ways to add some excitement to your haircut is by adding a bang. I like my clients to tip-toe into bangs with a long curtain fringe or a side bang. The curtain fringe will add shape and show off cheekbones and eyes. Be prepared to style your bangs every day. You’ll want to have your stylist do a run-through with you before leaving the salon. I like to use a medium-sized round brush and blow dry them all in one section towards the face and under, this will give the volume. Then, I flip the round brush to the top and dry it back away from the face for a nice swoop.

Long hair with a middle part and curtain bangs are well-suited for women who already have long hair. It makes a full transformation without having to commit to shorter hair and a long-term commitment to maintaining the bangs.

Longer curtain bangs for women over 50 really highlight your best facial features. With the deep inverted V bangs in the center, the sides kick out around the eyes and cheekbones. Use a 1/2 – 1 inch round brush rolling back to get the feathering sweep lifting away from the face to open it up.

A curtain fringe on very long hair is a great soft look for women. This helps add volume and sometimes adds more fullness in front of the face, creating an instant facelift. To style your bangs, clip them together and spray with Evo’s She-Bang-A-Bang. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before removing the clip.

#33: Gorgeous Curtain Fringe with Straight Hair

A gorgeous curtain fringe with straight hair creates an easy-to-style trend. One lady who wears it can play with some waves and curls to amp it up. For those who have a sharp jawline, this is a must-try. The long length covers the jaw area, while the bangs soften the face shape.

#34: Sultry Long Curtain Fringe with a Balayage

The long curtain fringe with a balayage is great for framing most face shapes. Its cut allows for a ton of movement and that picturesque “ponytail” fringe that’s very on-trend.

To cut the bangs,  a technique inspired by Goldwell educator Tony Cola was used. I took a small triangle where the inner eyebrows begin to create the perimeter using a feather razor. I pulled everything to that, established a guideline, and built the remaining cut from there.

Opt for longer curtain bangs if you’ve had previous breakage. Ask your stylist to utilize the length of that and add the curtain bangs.

Long thin curtain bangs are great for framing the face. They even look amazing for the cheekbones! Don’t use too much product in the fringe area as it’s the part of your hair that gets oily first. A little while after drying it, it will soften naturally with texture.
