Trendy pixie haircuts for women over 50 are typically cut shorter at the back and sides of the head and get longer on top. A short ‘do that works with almost all hair textures – there’s a lot to love about the pixie cut!

A pixie is a timeless look that picks no age, and it’s low maintenance. It’s definitely stylish and can add tons of volume to your tresses. That’s why is one of the top choices for ladies above 50!

Paige Patrick, owner of Urban Society Salon in Indiana, gave me inside info about pixie haircuts. “After hitting 50, the hair becomes finer, and a short pixie will allow the hair to appear fuller. A sassy short style also updates a mature woman’s style. Going shorter puts all the focus on your face, lifts you, and shows off your neck and body.”

The most important parts of the pixie haircut are the back and around the ears. “If your hairstylist nails that perfect shape in the back, it will take 10 years off your look. Not to mention, it’s a piece-of-cake to style,” Paige shared.

Her top styling pointers? “My most recommended product for a pixie cut is a good paste like Evo’s Box o’ Bollox. This paste gives the perfect malleable hold with very little shine. A paste will allow a short cut to come to life by showing off the shape more. Take 10 minutes every day to style your pixie cut. Keep up with it every 4 weeks to look more put together and well kept.”

If you’re going from a long haircut to a pixie, ask your stylist if you can slowly go shorter every appointment. “Working up to a short length will help build your confidence over time. This also allows you to make a good decision for yourself over time,” Paige advised.

#2: White Spiky Pixie with a Messy Top

A white spiky pixie with a messy top is very trendy right now. If you desire an edgy style, you can get away with a spikey pixie in your fifties. Ask your stylist for a soft texture pixie with disconnected layers in the crown. You will want to use a root booster and some texture paste to spike it up.

#3: Face-Framing Pixie Hair with Rounded Bangs and Layers

For ladies rocking their 50s, a short textured cut with rounded layers can be a flattering choice. To keep your style looking its best, make sure to have the layers cut evenly around the face for a more natural look. Use a texturizing cream to give your textured ends a more defined style. For added volume, use a volumizing mousse.

#5: Blonde Pixie Undercut

A blonde pixie undercut is a great choice for women over 50. It’s for women who want to modernize their look without compromising on style. This timeless haircut can help you stay ahead of the trends as your hair ages. It gives you an effortless yet polished appearance. It works best with medium-length to long hair that has some natural texture or wave. To style, blow dry using a round brush for extra volume. Then use a texturizing product for added body and movement. Finish off with hairspray to hold it in place – I recommend Matrix Vavoom Freezing Spray. For those looking for an edgier feel, ask your stylist to add some razor cut layers throughout the back. This will ensure your hair has a soft feminine grow out.

#6: Tousled Brunette Pixie with Fringe

A tousled brunette pixie with a fringe is everything you’d want in a pixie haircut… it’s trendy, feminine, and sophisticated! If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, you will love this haircut because it will bounce up and make those waves and curls come to life again. Keeping your fringe a little longer will camouflage a high forehead and make long thin faces appear fuller. Be prepared for more frequent trips to your hair salon than you’re used to if you are going from long to short hair.

#7: Blue and Purple Pixie

A blue-purple pixie is a creative way to change up the classic style. Women over 50 have a range when it comes to choosing their next style. However, one may shy away from colors that are unnatural. Yet, it has been more common to find vivid colors on the maturing clientele. With shade ranges, the colors can be as soft and pastel or as rich and vibrant as the woman’s complexion or preference will complement.

#8: Sweet Silver Pixie with Sideburns

If you rock your natural hair color but need a more manageable style, consider a textured pixie. Because your aging hair needs a cut that helps your hair behave, texturizing a pixie removes bulk. Also, it allows your hair to lay flatter to the sides. If you prefer more volume on top, don’t forget to ask your stylist to texture your hair the way you style it. This will help make your style easier.

Air dry, heat or dry styled. Styling aids like blow out gels, and paste can add personality per each day of wear.

#26: Youthful Layered Pixie

This long razored pixie cut is very easy to style – just scrunching some texture paste in the top to style will make it look super cute. This cut also looks great with one side tucked behind the ear for an effortless look.

We have been growing out Suzanne’s natural silver color for a while now by highlighting her old red color out and toning it to a silvery color to match her natural color.

To make it easier for her to style, we recently cut her hair even shorter into a real pixie cut.

It’s easier to grow out the natural color of your hair when you cut it shorter.

Going from having long hair to a pixie cut is definitely a big change but it can be a lot easier (less blowing drying time and less hair to wash). You will also want to get your hair cut more often to keep the shape. This cut would look good blown out and straightened as well as scrunched with a little paste or mousse and messy. Suzanne has coarse straight hair, so this cut might look slightly different (but still super cute) on someone who has curly or finer-textured hair.

#27: Silver Razor Pixie Cut

This pixie hairstyle is something that would look great at any age or hair type. It’s soft, edgy, and above all modern without looking too “try-hard”. Also, it’s a great way to transition to silver and cut off an old unwanted color!

I would really consider the details you want to see specifically before sitting in the chair. Ask yourself, do I want the sides clipper cut, how do I want the side-burns to lay, what sort of bang am I comfortable with. Most pixies require some sort of pomade or clay/wax to finish, and your hair type will determine what kind of product you’ll need. Ask your stylist what they think is best.

#28: Blonde Younger-Looking Pixie Cut

A blonde younger-looking pixie cut should have a soft perimeter. Keeping the neckline longer but still tapered appears more youthful and feminine, and could help you look 10 years younger.

#29: Salt-and-Pepper Short Pixie

A salt-and-pepper short pixie has been all the rage this season. Embracing your natural tones is the way to less maintenance. When your sparkles ( grey hairs ) shine through they give added texture because grey hair is more coarse. A pixie hairstyle are an easy wash-and-go haircut.

#30: Very Short White Pixie Cut Haircut

Go for a very short white pixie haircut. Wavy and straight textures work beautifully with a short pixie style. Easy to maintain on the daily, but has maintenance upkeep of 4-5 weeks to keep up with hair growth. Great for finer hair, it will look more full with a short pixie.

#31: Shaggy Pixie Cut for Older Ladies

Everyone always loves a shaggy pixie cut for older ladies. This style not only makes you look younger, but it’s also super easy to take care of. The only con to this cut is that you tend to need more visits to the salon to keep it looking top-notch.
