A long A-line bob is a mid-length bob haircut that is short at the back and sharply longer in the front. Expert stylists and celebrities are recently wearing long A-line bobs for its high-fashion image, its amazing versatility, and more!
Topping the list of stars who are fans of the A-line lob are Taraji Henson, Rosamund Pike, Jessica Chastain, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Obviously a fan-favorite, it’s super wearable because of the length you’re allowed to have and style according to your taste.
Take note to check your face shape and neck length first, so you’ll know whether to create an angle that is either slight or bold. Long and oval faces are almost always the best types of faces to match with a medium cut.
Planning to stay low-maintenance? If that’s your case then you’re on the right track because a mid-length haircut can last up to 3 months in between trims. Say hello to this year’s best long A-line bob haircuts.
#1: Long Stacked A-Line Bob Hairstyle
Consider an angled lob haircut or a long A-line bob haircut with slight layering. The layering was done with texturizing shears, which is a great way to add movement to the hair without removing a lot of lengths.
A long bob or a lob is a great option for someone who likes the look of a bob but doesn’t want to make the commitment to the shorter length. I also love the versatility and low-maintenance aspect of the angled cut. The way the cut follows the angle of the chin line makes it flattering on any face shape!
#2: Dark Brown Sleek Center-Parted A-Line
This transformative haircut is a dark brown sleek center-parted a-line. If you have been thinking about taking the leap to shorter hair, a long bob or a-line haircut is the perfect shape. The best part of this style is the ability to still pull your hair back or into a ponytail. It’s also still long enough in the front if you’re a bit worried about length. Ask your stylist to keep as much length as possible in the front to maintain a chic shape.
#3: Long A-Line with a Side Part
Doing an a-line bob with a side part is flattering for many face shapes. It adds an extra dimension, making it stand out from other styles. This cut can be tailored to fit any type of hair texture, so it’s great for styling versatility too! For added volume and definition, I suggest using a round brush. The best product to use with your flat iron would be a smoothing serum. Try Paul Mitchell Superskinny Serum!
#4: Creamy Vanilla Blonde Angled Lob for Straight Hair
Look chic and stunning with a creamy vanilla blonde angled lob for straight hair. A long a-line bob has a sharp shape and looks great on all different hair types. Thinning out at the nape and back is the most effective way to remove bulk and have the cut sit properly. I suggest styling with a big round brush to show off the a-line shape and get a polished look.
#5: Sharply Angled A-Line Bob
An angled a-line bob is a great choice for ladies who want a strong shape but not too short. Keep in mind the length needs to accommodate the shoulders and might flip out if not cut short enough, but the front can be left long.
For best results, blow-dry with a large round brush creating a straight edge, not rounded under. As an option, you can curl your bob with a wand for a softer finish.
#6: Sleek Jet Black A-Line Lob
You’ll look sharp in a sleek jet black a-line lob. Having your hair cut above the shoulders can help you get the clean line of this shape. If you would like to move the part around make sure there is a light layer in the bottom to allow for overlap. When you blow dry your hair, I suggest an extra large metal barrel round brush for the best control. Jet black color is a great accent and will reflect the light for tremendous shine.
#7: Long Lived-In A-Line Bob
A long, lived-in, a-line bob can be helpful for ladies who don’t want a high-maintenance haircut. While this style of bob may not require frequent appointments, remember to at least schedule every 6-8 weeks. Additionally, don’t forget to ask if your salon offers clean-up appointments, which can take less time while still keeping your cut fresh.
#8: Long Asymmetrical A-Line Bob
A few uneven angles can all turn your look from bad to good! A long a-line bob cut looks really good on your thick hair, with all the center part defining your face shape even more.
#9: Shoulder-Length A-Line Lob
It looks like a bob at the back but is actually a lob upfront. It’s the kind of two-faced long A-line bob haircut that you want to have.
#10: Long A-Line Bob with Side Swept Bangs
All the geometry in an a-line cut is a glorious ruffled manner. An A-line lob haircut is great for that orderly chaotic goodness.
#11: Long A-Line Bob for Thick Hair
What a silky, straight style that follows your every move! The long A-line bob for thick hair in the middle part is the perfect show-off accessory.
#12: Gorgeous Long A-Line Bob on Wavy Hair
Waves add flare to the asymmetrical cut that gives body to the whole A-line long bob haircut. Hashtag hair goals!
#13: Long A-Line Bob for Curly Hair
Loose curls tend to drop down towards the edges, giving a long A-line bob cut something to work with.
#14: A-Line Lob with Layers
No worrying about the frizz and clutter of layered hair with an a-line cut. Thin-haired girls, watch out for a long A-line bob hairstyle!
#15: Textured A-line Long Bob for Thin Hair
Layers on layers on an A-line Lob cut is a great way to body up thin hair.
#16: Long Inverted A-line Bob Haircut
I love the softness in an inverted A-line lob haircut. It’s easy to work with and requires very little maintenance. The sleekness adds the perfect amount of movement to the hair and accents the minimal layers beautifully. The cut itself requires very little maintenance as it grows out.
It’s perfect for anyone looking for the first step in taking their hair shorter. The cut pairs beautifully with a soft curl using a wider barrel curling iron. Anyone looking to add more of a tousled look should also pair a-line bobs with a texturizing spray. Anyone looking to keep the shape should expect to be getting it cut every 6-8 weeks. However, if you are looking to chop your hair and then let it grow out, an a-line lob cut grows out smoothly.
#17: A-Line Lob with Fringe
Q&A with style creator, Lauryn Blele
Hairstylist @ I Am Salon And Day Spa in Wilmington, NC
How would you describe this look?
A long A-line bob with fringe is very trendy and fun! I added a lot of layering to add volume and movement. She also has a shorter side bang that I texturized as well. It is probably one of my favorite haircuts to give clients. The color is a glossy, berry red – which brings out her gorgeous complexion and spunky personality.
Any advice for someone considering it?
One reason long A-line bob hairstyles are one of my favorite cuts to give is that it should be easy for my clients to style at home. Depending on the hair texture, they can add a texture spray, style it, and go. Other times – they can smooth it out with or without volume. Just about anybody can wear an a-line cut and style, but the color is for the bold and fierce! 😉 If a client is willing to come in for regular touch-ups at the salon and follow at-home color care – they can keep this beautiful, shiny color for weeks at a time.
#18: A-Line Lob with Bangs
Q&A with style creator, Sonya Findley-Eshleman
Hair Artist/Owner @ Suite Nectar Salons in Matthews, NC
How would you describe this look?
A long A-line bob with bangs is modern chic. My favorite thing about an a-line lob is the clean angle with the bangs. It gives your basic shoulder-length hair, an edgy style, and you have versatile styling options!
Any advice for someone considering it?
Think about your natural hair state, whether it’s curly/textured or straight, and how much work you might need to put into it. Those with curly or wavy hair will have to put more effort into achieving a lob style.

#19: Long Choppy A-Line Bob
Q&A with style creator, Madi Almquist
Stylist @ MarcDaniel Salon in Maple Grove, MN
How would you describe this look?
The A-line inverted lob cut is a huge hit right now for multiple reasons. Inverted lob cuts are easy to maintain both on a day to day basis and while the cut is growing out. The “invisible layers” accent the blunt shape while adding movement. The invisible layers can easily be tousled for textured or smoothed for a sleek look.
Any advice for someone considering it?
If you’re considering an inverted lob, I always suggest starting with a length you’re comfortable with. Remember you can always make it into a short A-line bob cut. A lob haircut can easily be worn straight, curly, or wavy. One thing to keep in mind if you constantly throw your hair back is that you will only be able to do a half updo. It can still be cute and fashionable or simply just keep your hair out of your face.
If you are wanting to keep the style of the cut, I recommend getting it cut every 6-8 weeks. As far as styling products go, I would pair every lob with a heat protectant (essential for every hair type) to protect your hair no matter how you are styling it. A texture spray is a good investment if you like the tousled beachy look, as it gives the hair a gritty feel without making it dirty.
#20: Messy Long A Line Bob for Fine Hair
Q&A with style creator, Jesilyn Impink
Licensed Hair/Makeup Artist @ Jasen William Salon in Coral Springs, FL
How would you describe this look?
Consider a dimensional layered bob. It’s an A-line bob cut on longer hair. It’s great for people with fine to medium hair. In my opinion, it makes them look like they have more hair! My favorite thing about layered bobs is that everything is subtle. The color has a soft dimension to it, and the layers are light but they stand out more with the curl we added.
Any advice for someone considering it?
The advice I would give a client considering an A-line long bob would vary depending on the person. The cut is a little more angled to the front which elongates round faces. It needs to be maintained every 4-6 weeks to reshape, meaning it’s not the best for someone that wants to come to the salon only 3-4 times a year. As far as styling it, it’s very versatile. For the color, this client will have to use a color-safe shampoo & conditioner and get a color touch-up every 4-6 weeks along with her haircuts.
#21: Dark Long A-Line Bob with Highlights
Q&A with style creator, Adrianna Moran
Hair Stylist / Colorist @ Shear Envy Salon & Spa in San Diego, CA
How would you describe this look?
Opt for a long A-line bob style with light wispy textured ends and soft layers. I chose to give her baby lights and balayaged her previously lightened ends to get an overall lighter appearance. Then, I topped it off with a root shadow to give it a defused look and styled her with light curls to give her a soft tasseled ready-to-go vibe.
Any advice for someone considering it?
When my clients want an a-line bob cut, it’s important to consider the type of texture they have. For instance, if it’s coarse you would consider more texturizing, or if it’s finer you’d possibly add more layers.
I would also consider the face shape, neckline, and shoulders to visualize if this is the right style for them. If it is then it’s also important to inquire if your client is a wash and go type of person. If so, give your client tips to achieve this look at home. I personally love soft-curling the ends with my Babyliss curling iron and spraying some Wella Eimi glam mist at the end to give it a gorgeous shine for those glammed out nights. I’m also known to spray in some R+Co Trophy to add texture and shine with flexible hold for those ready to go active days.
An A-line lob is amazing for that person who likes to have fun, curl her hair when she can, but also loves a natural wave or straight texture. It’s fun and funky and easy to maintain, so keep making your clients beautiful!
